GFI History

The Gentile family has a long and prominent history in the waste and recycling business that dates back to the 1950s. GFI founder Phillip Gentile Sr. was an industry innovator and pioneer, and the holder of several patents including the original patent on the front-end loader type garbage truck. He was the first to offer customers wheeled garbage cans for customers in the San Fernando Valley. Mr. Gentile Sr. developed the Sunshine Canyon Landfill at the northern end of the San Fernando Valley and, in a joint partnership with Lockheed Martin, built the first pyrolitic processing plant for recycling waste. Mr. Gentile Sr. researched and pioneered waste separation, waste water treatment and other recycling technologies that have paved the way for today's green technologies.
